Mani Wall All along the trek we saw rough walls with carved stones sitting on them. These are called main stone walls, for the second 'word' of the Buddhist chant Om mani padme hum. Each stone is carved with a single symbol from the chant, or the chant in whole. We were told at one point that many of the stones came from Tibet. Tibetians would carry these stones on their backs over the montains to save them from the destruction of the Chinese communists.
